Last week, my best friend, Annette, and I went on our yearly road trip. I look forward to these vacations every year. I love being in a car or on an airplane headed into a “different.”
We had scheduled a long weekend in Asheville, North Carolina, but had to change our plans due to flooding and damage caused by Hurricane Helene. We almost decided to stick with our trip to North Carolina, but when the Governor issued a statement a week before we were set to leave saying, “We don’t want you here,” we canceled our Airbnb and shifted our attention west to Arkansas.
(A friend of mine has family there, and she suggested this link if you want to make donations to the relief efforts.)
We ended up pivoting to Hot Springs, Arkansas and were not disappointed. On the way, we visited the Tina Turner Museum and stopped for some beer at Moody Brews.
When we reached Hot Springs, we explored the town, had our fortunes read by the great Zoltar, and visited museums and crystal shops. The next day, we hiked at Lake Catherine State Park.
I feel like we blinked, and our trip was over, but we’re already talking about where we might go next year. In the meantime, I have some new-to-us vinyl purchased from a sweet young lady in the underground record shop, and 4,000-year-old spring water to magically transport me to our tiny cabin in the middle of nowhere, Arkansas.
