This is the third—or maybe fourth—time I’ve read this book.
Bill Bryson is one of my favorite authors, and when he writes about his everyday life or travels, none of it ever feels dull.
Several times in this book, for example, he goes to a bar and orders food. Each time, I’m not bothered about another account of a restaurant.
His writing is so entertaining and sneakily educational in an effortless way. It’s more like casually chatting with your friend Bill as he recounts his day.
If you want to escape to a distant, forgotten land that feels kind of like America, read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
