Write for the Love of Learning the Craft and Playing with Words
People who love writing love those who love writing as well. They like to be in the presence of one another. The shared energy and enthusiasm for story and words is electric in a room of writers.
There is a darker side to this electricity, however. If you’ve ever been to a writers’ circle, you know of what I speak. The share and critique portion of the meetings can suck the oxygen and life out of any muse in the galaxy.
A friend of mine attended a writers’ circle years ago with a finished manuscript in hand. This was no small manuscript. Think, The Godfather type of girth.
She willingly handed this physical representation of her time and energy to a woman in the group who skimmed the text, then and for ten full minutes said things like, “this is how I would have written it.”
My friend has not written since.
That’s not a horror story. It’s true. I’ve always hated writers’ groups for that very reason.
Why can’t people just get together for the love of writing and play with it without intention of publication, fame, respect, or millions?! Why not just play? Just learn something about the craft, explore, and enjoy it?
Well, my friends, that’s what we’re going to do.
Starting January 2023, I will be hosting a monthly membership group for those who love writing.
I’ll be sharing more details as I flesh them out. In the meantime, subscribe to ensure you do not miss an update.
